    I'm sure this has been asked already, but what are the features and mechanics of your dream game that you feel are missing from the games that inspired it? I'm old as heck but trying to get perspective from other indies while my own dev work is underway.

    • @calebgilbertyt
      @calebgilbertyt 10 днів тому

      I'm not too sure yet to be honest, it has a few mix of mechanics which I haven't seen been mixed before, but so far there isn't any brand new mechanic, I would love to make one though, it may require some brain storming 😅

      @calebgilbertyt Місяць тому

      Wow that means a lot thank you! I recommend learning Python before hopping into a game engine. Just practicing making simple projects like fizz buzz. Then I recommend learning the theory behind the programming paradigm, object orientation. It's what C# uses and thus what unity is revolved around. And I mean just the theory, still not in any game engine. Although I would normally recommend jumping into C# and unity, I've been playing around with godot recently, and I think it's the next best step. So once you've learnt the theory of object orientation, I recommend finally jumping into godot and getting a feel for the engine. Then I recommend learning gdscript which is very similar to Python however offers a lot of object orientation features. For this step, I recommend doing the gdscript guide / app by gdquest. And I think you can then be free from there, do what you like, and game jams are always a great way to stretch your wings and potential. Take this advice with a pinch of salt, as this is not a formula, just my best advice at the moment. Wishing you the best!

    7:37 how i so get this feeling man but yeah at least it got you to that final mockup which honestly looks amazing also i have a thing where i kinda feel like this game might fit with a more lively aesthetic rather than a baren wasteland, this wizard dude just fits so well in such enviorements (also we could make it so that the reason that the world is so vibrant is the magic in the area, places feed off of magic so the parts with more magic/magic of a specific kind are more vibrant, doesn't even need to be realistic (aka green) foliage but perhaps even blue white or purple if you wanna go the funky route, and with that it could help in more coherency while also having more freedom, as you can make both the baren wastelands and vibrant areas together based on which part of the game and how the story is going, and have a reason to why things really are that different that ties it all together)

    • @calebgilbertyt
      @calebgilbertyt Місяць тому

      Yeah definitely, that is so true, I'll play around with it, after all the mock up did have a lot of foliage in it so I'm going in that direction.

  • @nesraspongx58
    @nesraspongx58 Місяць тому

    0:18 it's honestly incredibely cool how they managed to store the game in such low space i want to say part of it is because it was partially easier back then, but we can't deny the amount of work and thought that was put into it (the reason i say it might've been partially easier back then is the standard of space, back then 41 killobytes was a lot compared to now, so the standard for how condenced the files would be was a lot higher, right now nobody cares as much so even a file that is just as simple would easily take more space, tho that's more of a guess)

  • @nesraspongx58
    @nesraspongx58 Місяць тому

    a note on the complex enemies part the more complex the less enemies there should be on screen and the slower the game would be a good part of these games is knowing what each enemy does and what to do currently games with more enemies (let's say dead cells on higher boss cells for example) tend to have somewhat simple enemies with 1 or 2 moves, but the challenge comes to how you approach them in the context of other enemies and the level itself yet you see that in the most "complex" show for enemy ai, bosses, there usually is only the boss and it's specific minions in games so keep that in mind, what is the focus of your game, you don't want to scrap that much work after you've already done it do you want a game where you rush many enemies one after the other, or more of a focus on the fight with smaller mobs where each mob has more to look out for
